The Old Testament ends with a message of hope for families."I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse." (Malachi 4:5-6) The Bad News: Without strong families, the land becomes cursed. Americans consistently underestimate the damage done when families fail. This is because families are the building blocks of humanity. The word that best describes today’s adolescents is abandoned. When enough people are wounded, societies collapse. We are America’s Malachi: a Hebrew name meaning my messenger. The Good News: In Christ you can turn your heart to your family. In Christ we receive grace to cultivate life-giving virtues. Do This: Pledge here and now to become Christ to your family. Remember this: You can be Christ to your family no matter what they do.
